Country Shows

Towns and villages throughout the Lake District hold annual shows, sports days and agricultural gatherings. Many of these shows have been established for hundreds of years. The following are in the South Lakes area.

Ambleside Sports
Traditional Lakeland sports. Fell racing, cycle racing, Cumberland wrestling, and hound trails. Held on the last Thursday in July.
Cartmel Agricultural Show
Family entertainment at Cartmel Racecourse. Livestock, horses and entertainment. Held on the first Wednesday in August.
Eskdale Show
The premier show for Herdwicks in the country. Always on the last Saturday in September, on the field by the King George IV.
Grasmere Sports & Show
Fell racing, hound trails, Cumberland wrestling, tug of war, etc.
Lakeland Country Fair at Torver
Livestock competitions, Cumberland wrestling, fell races, and horn-blowing competition.
Lunesdale Show
Agricultural displays, livestock competitions, Cumberland wrestling, and family entertainment.
Rusland Show
Horticulture, home produce, crafts, photography, fell races, track races, and other field events.
Rydal Sheepdog Trials & Hound Show
Sheepdog trials, shows of working dogs, and shepherds’ crooks competitions.
Ulverston & North Lonsdale Agricultural Show
A traditional show held at Urswick village, on the edge of Ulverston. A wide range of farming-related competitions, displays, trade stands, and family entertainment.
Westmorland County Agricultural Show
One of the largest agricultural shows in the country, held at Crooklands, near Kendal. Livestock displays, rural crafts, and local foods. Held on the second Thursday in September.
