Location & Travel

Where we are

Ulverston is situated in the Furness area of South Cumbria, on the edge of the Lake District. Ulverston’s surroundings are largely rural, with a varied landscape including woodland, rolling countryside, lakes and mountains.  South Cumbria is recognised as one of the country’s finest areas for its quality of life. Cumbria also has a growing reputation as the UK’s ‘Adventure Capital’, the premier destination for outdoor sports, adventure and leisure activities.

Ulverston is directly connected to the national road and rail networks. There are several major airports within a couple of hours journey time.

Railway Tickets

Trains to and from Ulverston railway station connect to West Coast Main Line routes at Lancaster. Ulverston Railway Station has a booking hall and waiting room with a manned ticket counter. An automated ticket machine for the collection of pre-paid tickets is located within the booking hall area, and is only available during hours that the station is staffed. See the National Rail Enquiries website for details. There is a limited amount of car parking available next to the station, operated by Apcoa.

International Airports

The closest major international airports are at Liverpool and Manchester. A number of taxi firms in the Furness area operate mini-bus services to the airports.

Car Hire

Car hire is available nearby at Barrow-in-Furness and Kendal, and also at Liverpool and Manchester Airports.
